This work was inspired by the spirit of Miles Davis and the transformative power of jazz. I wanted to capture more than a musician playing an instrument instead the concentration, confidence, and emotional depth behind the music. 100 Miles High suggests music that rises beyond the physical world.
I hope viewers feel the intensity and intimacy of the moment. His direct gaze creates a connection between the musician and the viewer, while the trumpet becomes almost an extension of his voice. I want people to imagine the sound even though the painting is silent—to think about how Black music communicates history, struggle, innovation, freedom, and emotion across generations.
